You Aren’t Good Enough! Getting Fit With Running Shouldn’t Be Fuelled By Self Hatred.
You aren’t good enough.
Given the current world economic climate we’re shit upon at any chance by business men who try to convince us we should be grateful for even having a job.
At every turn we’re told that we aren’t good enough and we’re then sold the cure by the very people who propagated the myth in the first place.
You quickly learn that you are a failure for not achieving some sense of true happiness or competence.
But that’s bullshit.
Then the self hatred and the frustation starts with aplomb.
Self hatred whilst running was a constant for me at first. You can only nearly hit yourself in the head with your man tits before you start thinking ‘why can’t I just give up fucking chips? That would help wouldn’t it?”.
But that anger is destructive.
We can only do our best with our own circumstances. You can only move forward by accepting where you are in the first place. You can’t progress as a person or a runner if you’re in the throes of self loathing.
It will drag you down.
We’re used as a victim of our own low self-esteem by a cynical “health & fitness” industry that would die on it’s knees if everyone became fit and healthy.
We’re encouraged to buy into weight loss plans that implore us to hate our “old selves” and to love “the new us”. We then find “the new us” and realise that there is no real difference between who we are now inwardly compared to when we were fatter.
We then feel empty or fundamentally broken.
Be your own Guru.
The truth is that you don’t need to consult any fitness gurus to become reasonably healthy.
You can do it on your own and enjoy the process.
Instead of turning our hatred inwardly, we can turn it inside out and use the anger to fuel ourselves through running against those who would try to crush and kill our spirit.
Striving to be normal in a piss-grey society.
We’re sold the idea of ‘being normal’ as an ideal that we can use to find some degree of acceptance in society.
The ‘normal’ people out there are the same guys who will judge us for running awkwardly in the street without having the guts to try to do something for themselves.
They are from the “X-Factor” generation that will achieve nothing in their lives as they are too busy casting their votes on outsiders and not focusing on improving their own lives.
Talk about cheap happiness..
You are good enough!
You have everything you need to make a success of your life right now.
There’s nothing wrong with setting yourself apart from a society that values obedience and compliance over true heart and passion.
You can live your own life and pick your own path, finding real happiness and peace through the whole process.
And there’s nothing to stop you starting right now!
P.S. I ran 7 miles today.
