Two Runs Today To Make 28 Miles This Week So Far
I’ve had an excellent week so far with the 11 miles on Monday, 7 on Tuesday and the 6 & 4 mile runs earlier today. Both runs were tough because of the heat but I embraced the challenge and just kept the pace slow.
After the 6 miler I came in totally saturated with sweat and immediately downed a 2 litre bottle of diet cola in 3 chugs.
This is not how you drink cola by the way.
Here’s the 1st run!
And the 2nd!
My body isn’t feeling 100% tonight. I can feel a pain in my right foot developing which is a worry. Hopefully it will disappear overnight otherwise tomorrow might have to be a rest day.
I’m getting to the point now where I’m incorporating a little bit of speed work into my jogs. I’ll sprint across any roads on my way and challenge myself to sprints between lamp posts.
It’s fartlek training more than speedwork but it still counts!
Ideally I need to be averaging below 10 minute miles by the end of the month otherwise the 2 hour target for September will be out of my reach I think.
In recent months I’d be happy enough to start out at a 10:50 minute mile and gradually work my pace up. I’m trying to increase my first mile speed and make it around 10:20 min/mile and concentrate on knocking off 5 seconds per mile with a strong finish at the end.
The important thing is to get my body in a state where running at my current pace is too easy and I naturally increase my pace as my endurance improves. I can feel it starting to happen and it’s pretty exciting!
I was meaning to say that I wasn’t gonna run twice today but was forced into it after a wasp came in through my window. I hosed that bastard down good with some insecticide spray and freaked out when it landed on the window sill and started buzzing like hell on the pane.
It was an awful noise, but I was glad to hear it was dying.
I think I stayed in my room long enough for the incesticide to have an effect on my lungs. I felt a burning pain for the first 2 miles. Not fucking good! I was expecting to cough up a nest of dead wasps by mile 2. That would have at least explained the pain.
I sprayed so much onto it that I was forced into evacuating the room for 30 minutes and the run came from that!
