Hi Angry. This is the best running blog ever. Do you want some suggestions for getting past Birmingham? This is my area. Canals are the key.

Hi Angry, This is the best running blog ever. Don’t know if you want route suggestions, but I can give you some pointers for getting from Stratford through Birmingham and onwards painlessly. Canals are your friend.

Hey Mark I’m gonna take the Stratford canal hw far north from Birmingham can I make it by canal?

Yes. Should be easy. Find the canal in Stratford – should be easy – it’s obvious on googlemaps. Follow this under the M40 and then at Lapworth (13 miles from Stratford) keep left. At 25.5 miles from Stratford you reach a T junction where you meet another canal (at a little humpback bridge). This is Kings Norton. Turn right and then 4 or so miles later you are right in the centre of Birmingham. Really nice run (thought I’ve not done the first section from Stratford). There are several pubs along the way, and a cafe at Lapworth (I think).

Oh, and the next day, just stay on the canal to Tamworth (or beyond – possibly). Again, really nice run. You go under Spaghetti Junction. It’s a bit confusing finding the right canal out of Birmingham, but if you just choose the branch that goes due North East (Birmingham and Fazely Canal – there should be a signpost – then you’ll be fine. Just follow your nose. 19.5 miles (I think) to Tamworth.
