Should You Run A Marathon To Race And Honour ‘The Spirit’?
I seen this Ad posted over on r/runnit and it annoyed me. But it has got me talking about the ad, so has therefore served it’s purpose.
Fuck the spirit of the marathon I say. It’s 26.2 miles. Run it how you like.
To say that everyone should be aiming for elite speeds is absurd. It would instil a hatefully competitive spirit and ruin the sport for a lot of people including myself. Whenever I run these things I treat them more as a carnival than a race or an endurance contest or any of that bollocks.
A marathon is always a great opportunity to get around and see a large part of a new town and meet new people.
Some see it as a chance to run like an animal and I guess that’s fair enough.
