Running Twice A Day Whilst Marathon Training Can Sometimes Be Too Much…But Not This Time.
Today was one of those rare days where I went on two runs.
I’m always reluctant to go for 2 in one day as that was essentially caused the injury in October in the Algarve in the final week of Dublin Marathon training.
(I was also running on sand whilst totally wankered on Sangria which could have been another aggravating factor)
This time though I felt comfortable after the 1st run, which was totally unremarkable in every way, apart from some bint completely blocking off the footpath with her double buggy and three friends who were standing, arguing about the best way to piss whilst in a rickets induced delirium.
Or something along those lines.
I hate when the footpath is blocked off. I have three options. 1) Try to run around the person 2) Try to hurdle over the person 3) Try to run through the person.
Number 1 was impossible as both the road and the inside path was blocked.
Number 2 was impossible. Even though she was about 4 foot tall, I’ve never been renowned for my acrobatics.
Number 3 was most definitely impossible. She, like most of the women from the adjacent area was built like a brick-shithouse. She would have had me.
So I did what I always do. I start my passive aggressive stomp-jog. It’s my way of tooting my horn.
Only it never comes across as intimidating as I look even queerer than I normally do and to some people it could look like a desperately need a shit. Which is never that far from the truth.
Anyway, back on topic.
I went on my 2nd run an hour later and just went out to enjoy it. I kept it slow throughout and didn’t check my watch much at all.
I do love those runs where you feel like your floating and don’t have to put any effort in whatsoever. If I can get myself to the point where I feel like that for an entire half marathon, then I’ll be extremely happy.
When deciding on whether I should go out on a second run or not I just factor in how I feel. If I’m feeling like shit, I’m not gonna risk it. Similarly if I’m wankered on Sangria, I’m not gonna risk it.
