Running Makes Me Feel Alive – Especially The Endorphin Rush That Comes With Runners High
If you’re new to running and are wondering about the benefits of the sport, then you need look no further than the runners high.
I don’t get it that often but when it comes it’s an insane rush. For me it will hit in the last quarter of the race. I remember one time it hit when I was listening to ‘All Of These Things That I’ve Done’ outside a store on my home straight.
The guitar kicked in of the song and I just felt this blast of pure emotion. I could have cried on the spot, but not out of sorry. I was elated.
When I look back at myself before I started running, I realise that I rarely felt truly alive. I’d maybe have an exciting dream or a nice holiday or a good night out in town, but nothing compares to the level of vitality I feel whilst out running.
I feel at my peak when I’m competing in half marathons too. The energy radiating off the crowd and spectators is magnificent. You can actually feel it, even though it’s not physical.
If you haven’t experienced any feelings of aliveness yet with your running, keep going. It can take a while for it to hit, but once it does there is no mistaking it!
I forgot to mention that the feelings of aliveness persist for a long while after I’ve stopped jogging too, particularly if I’ve had a tough session. It’s great relaxing after a run knowing you have given it your all and you can just rest now!
