Running Faster Than A 9 Minute Mile Average – Progressing As A Beginner Runner

  1. Great work Matt! Looks like your points system works a treat for motivating you – I might steal it and try it myself. I’m keen to get rid of the 10min/mi too and on recent shorter runs have seen great improvements in my speed – it’s just a question of whether I can keep it up for distance.

You should definitely reward yourself when you get to 1000 points. 🙂

I love your points system! I also utilize a point system, based on my heart rate and time (TRaining IMPulse, or TRIMP). By cycling my effort much like a traditional plan cycles volume or distance, I can ensure that I peak when I want, and incorporate adequate rest!

Congrats on the sub 8:00. Don’t those feel awesome?

  3. I love this idea and as someone who is struggling to run faster I think it might just work! Thank you x
