Runner’s Block And Preparations For My 100k on Saturday.
I don’t know what to write here. I used to know what to write. I’d do something inane like ’85 Ways Why Running Is Like Your Granny’ and it’d all be fine. I’d go onto Reddit/r/running, whore out my link and be shot down by a bunch of speedo wearing cuntbags and I’d then sit back and watch the world burn.
I only signed up for my first London 2 Brighton 100k back in 2014 because I heard you got champagne at the end. That is a good indicator that you have a serious alcohol problem. Only an alcoholic can think ‘wow. a 100k run with prosecco. That will surely hit the spot.’
I didn’t get any ‘fizz’ after dropping out of my London 2 Cambridge attempt, so I made up for it by having a bottle of cava for breakfast the next morning. It was my consolation prize.
I’m prepared for the 100k this time although if I started to talk to other runners at this point I’d lose confidence. I don’t like chatting with other runners. It always comes back to clothes and shoes. And if I wanted to compare clothing with intensity I’d take up Church as a hobby.
This is what I’m bringing with me. And no, I don’t have any fucking room for travel fucking Scrabble.
- Water bottle
- My Salomon Speedcross trainers
- Karrimor running belt that I took with Europe to me
- Head torch
- Anker power bank
- USB Cable
- 2X£10 notes for catering vans
- Bank cards
- Wet wipes to wipe my arse with in case of a code brown.
In 2014 I brought
- An ultramarathon bag that didn’t fit my waist with 4 packets of Percy Pig in it.
- A pair of flat soled trainers that eventually got eaten at 78k.
So yeah I am better prepared. I have a timeline that I’m trying to stick to. My aim is to try to spend at least 10 minutes at each checkpoints and to take in all of my fuel then. I am not bringing gels with me.
Here’s when I’m hoping to leave each checkpoint at
Sunset on Saturday in Brighton is 9pm. That means it’s gonna be pretty dark by 9:30pm. I need to be as close to Brighton as possible by then to make it easy for myself.
Should be doable.
