Responding Positively After My Munich DNF.
I’m still quite gutted after recording my first ever Did Not Finish in Munich on Sunday.
It was going so well up until the 8 mile mark when I began to have problems with my breathing. I’d been trying to stick to under a 9 minute mile for as long as possible and it all seemed to be going so well up until then.
By 11.2 miles I just couldn’t breathe at all and I knew I was finished. It was disappointing to travel so far for a race and not even come home with a fucking medal.
I’m still running the Dublin Marathon and I’m aiming for a personal best there. I won’t be running with music or attempting to keep to a specific pace but I’ll keep an eye on the clock and see what happens.
I’ve been really watching my diet this week. I’ve been eating Sushi, Jaffa Cakes and Snickers Bars mostly but in smaller amounts.
Yesterday I recorded my first ever sub 8 minute mile average run. I did 7.03 miles in just under 56 minutes at an average pace of 7:57.
It was one of those runs where I actually forced myself into running faster as a response to Munich. I could either have felt sorry for myself and not ran this week or made a statement that I was at least gonna go out fighting.
The best way to help your body cope with a 9 minute mile is to make it cope with an 8 minute mile.
From now until Vegas I’m gonna be using the disappointment from Munich to fuel me on.
When I first started this blog a lot of the ‘anger’ came from not really liking myself as a person. Since then I’ve started to respect myself a little more and I’m now just trying to do the best that I can.
It’s all that you can do really.
Sorry again for the lack of updates here, I’m into the last few weeks of book writing and it’s getting quite intense on that front. Looking back to posting again for fun over Christmas and the New Year!
