My Comeback Run Was Today And I’ve Been Entering Races Like A Bastard!
Sadly I missed out on the Ards half marathon yesterday as I was caught up in work and knew within myself that I wasn’t fit to run it properly.
Plus I wasn’t prepared to pay the insane £25 late entry fee to run a race through somewhere I’d rather not be.
Insane race prices.
£25 for a jaunt around a bad town in Northern Ireland is bad enough, but being charged £32 for a normal race entry to the Brighton Half Marathon 2014 was a bit of a kick to the cock.
What made it worse is that I was charged another £2.50 as a registration charge.
Now I love Brighton and everything, but the race organisers could make it easier on us all by saying “our race costs £35 to enter” rather than relying on this fucking underhand Ticketmaster style bollocks.
Today was a good day though.
I entered Brighton 2014 and Amsterdam in October today so I now have something to run towards.
Today I ran for the first time since Sunday’s half marathon and hammered out 11.25 miles in 110 minutes. I was delighted with it as I experienced no pain at all in my left leg.
I’m looking forward a lot to 2014 as it’s the year where I’ll be moving closer to the races I wanna run. Having to pay for planes to UK races every month is incredibly expensive, so it’ll be great making the move over there in January.
Recovered from the injury scare.
I’m in a much better place mentally than last Monday. After those half marathons I thought I’d caused some serious damage to my left leg, but fortunately it only seems to have been shin splints.
From now on until Amsterdam and Dublin in October my plan will be to increase my endurance by doing more distance and hill running. I’m not gonna worry about my speed as that is what caused my injury on Sunday.
The future is certainly looking bright and I just need to gradually work upon it. Running the sub 2 hour half last Saturday shows that I’m capable of it and it’s merely a matter of 20 seconds improvement per mile to get where I need to be.
