My Comeback Run After The Liverpool Half Marathon And Looking Forward To The Paris Marathon.
Today was a massive success.
I ran without any pain in my achilles whatsoever.
It was my first run since the Liverpool Half Marathon and my Garmin was fucked up from the start. I ran the first mile in 4:30. Then the second in 5:00.
I came back home and saw that the Forerunner thought I’d started the run up in the mountains 3 miles away from where I really started.
That means if Mo Farah was to ever challenge me to an 8 mile race, he could give me a 5 mile head start and probably still coast his way past me on the back stretch.
Paris is only two weeks away now.
The plan for next week is simple. I need to relax and enjoy running again.
In the lead-up to Liverpool I was trying to do too much on every single run. If you try to go on hilly, fast and long runs 4x a week then the chances are you’ll burn out or injure yourself.
I’m fortunate that I just ended up with a minor case of tendonitis after Liverpool.
I won’t deny it, I was scared I was gonna have to cancel both of the races and that just isn’t gonna happen at this stage.
It made me realise that I don’t really know what the fuck I’m talking about when it comes to running. It feels like I’m just winging it.
But then again the doubt is what makes the journey fun as I run through it and then actually learn something for myself. It’s an exhausting process and I’m sure there are better ways to go about it, but fuck it.
No need to panic
I’ve been having those nasty pre-marathon anxiety dreams where I have to stop at the ‘Place De La Bastille’ after being raped by Eric Cantona, who is wielding nothing but a garden trowel and a nervous smile.
Panicing isn’t going to help here. I worried so much about the last marathon that I ended up leaving the country for 10 days on a bus tour of Southern Europe. I did nothing then but eat cheeseboards, drink Wine and bitch.
I gained 5lbs and still managed to finish Belfast with a personal best.
What I’m trying to say here is that the Paris Marathon will be fine. I need to just keep sane over the next week and to stay healthy.
Hopefully before then we’ll finally see spring emerging as at the moment it seems like it’s never gonna happen.
