Missing The Madness Of The Weekend Runs.
Feeling sore tonight after a day of gardening yesterday at the Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary outside Antrim. We went with work as part of the Business In The Community scheme and spent the day trimming hedges, weeding and neighing at the horses (I think that was just me).
It was a lovely day for it outside and I enjoyed the company but I am pretty sore tonight.
I’ve managed 2 runs over the past 2 days. A 7 miler in the morning yesterday and a 6.5 miler today. Both were enjoyable but pretty unremarkable runs.
I’m starting to notice the mornings getting brighter later and spending more time running in the dark.
I don’t like this at all. I’m more of a spring boy than an autumn man. It takes a while to get adjusted to running in the darkness even in the months of early spring. Then before you know it the sky cracks dark blue and it’s almost indistinguishable from the night but you know it’s there.
Tonight I’m feeling a bit deflated. This is my first Saturday home after three weeks out at Glasgow, Derry and Newcastle and I really wish I was out again somewhere else doing another run tomorrow. I love the ritual of being lost in a strange town and the anticipation/dread of the run in the morning.
You get addicted to the madness after a while and start to need it like a drug.
My next half marathon will be Brighton in February. I really wanted to run my 10th half marathon before the end of 2012 but the flights to Amsterdam, Cardiff and Birmingham are far too expensive at this point.
I’ll spend the coming months trying to find runs at the beginning of 2013 to race on the mainland. I’m gonna aim for a 30 mile a week average to keep my fitness levels up to a reasonable standard.
In the meantime I’m gonna keep my weight below 210lbs and aim to hit a good balance between eating like a pig and eating healthily.
I will keep trying.
