Let’s Not Split Hairs About Where I Am
I am living in Split, Croatia at the moment.
Before that, I was staying in a place called Liberec, Czech Republic. It has this mountain called Jested nearby that I ran up 2 or 3 times. The hotel on top sells really piss poor cake. 700m of elevation gain for something that looks like an object a dog would abort out of its hole.
I ran to Germany and Poland a few times from Liberec. It was amazing. I wanted to blog about it at the time but I’ve been terrified of logging in here to see how much more dead my blog is. I loved running across the borders. There’s a place where you can stand in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland all at the same time and it made me realize how arbitrary all this country/nationalism/patriotism bullshit really is. True fucking poison.
I don’t give a fuck that your granny has been making cake that way for 9500 years, make it fucking good.
Before that, I was living in Prague for a month. I was in this old Soviet-era post office building right behind Prague Castle. I spent a lot of time walking around there at the sunset. Quite glorious. Should have taken some pictures but I fucking hate photography. Every picture I take looks like something from a potato. Even cameras are racist these days.
I’m staying in Airbnbs again but only renting entire flats this time. I could not bear living with someone else in a shared house getting marked down 1 star for not rinsing the shower after use. If I wanted to enjoy passive aggressive bollocks, I’d start running marathons again.
I can live in Southern or Eastern Europe for a month for the same price I was living in London for a week but I’ll probably be back there soon living in hotels again for work. Unless I end up in Berlin or wherever.
Split is a beautiful place. I am here for a few more weeks but I’m struggling to find areas to run in. Loads of busy roads. Bears in the mountains. I am staying right in the city center and I often find myself going on long walks in search of an open kiosk at 4am for some peanut crisps.
Ideally I would love to run to another country but Slovenia is about 1500 miles away and the last time I did that kinda distance it almost fucking killed me.
