Just Because It’s Been A Bad Running Week So Far Doesn’t Mean It Has To End That Way.
It feels like ages since I’ve posted here! This week hasn’t been a great one for running but all is not lost. At the start of today I had only ran 7.5 miles for the week. Meeting my weekly target of 30 miles seemed an impossibility.
I went out before lunch and ran 7.2 miles. So now I’ve ran 14.7 miles for the week! I’m thinking of going out for another run in an hour and aiming for a 5k. That would leave me with a 12 mile long run tomorrow to make up the 30 mile target.
It’s certainly doable but it seemed impossible only 2 hours ago. It just shows you what a difference a run can make in terms of how you feel about yourself and your training.
If you too are having a bad week and think you’ve ruined your training program, then stop over thinking things and just get out there for a run. It doesn’t have to be a long one. It doesn’t have to be anything.
Don’t wait until next week to come to recommit to your running. Do it now and next week will be all the better for it.
The hardest bit of running isn’t the actual running itself. It’s getting started. Sometimes I’ll sit here for ages and worry about how this next run will be the most difficult so far. All sorts of bullshit will enter my head and none of it reflects reality.
Turn off your mind and gear up your legs and you’ll feel all the better for it after you’ve finished.
And That’s Where I Stopped Writing.
And I went out on a run.
I managed 4.2 miles in 44 minutes which I’m very happy with. That leaves a 11 mile long run tomorrow and I’ll have hit my weekly target of 30 miles.
My long run tomorrow won’t be easy, especially after running twice today. I’ll leave it until about 3pm tomorrow afternoon and just take it easy.
Incidentally today’s run was my 224th run of 2012 which means I’ve went on more runs in 2012 than I did in 2011.
I am such a fucking stats geek.
