I’ve Arrived In Inverness And I’m Looking Forward To The Race Tomorrow.
Note : I was trying to publish this post last night before the race but my connection was shit. I succeeded in my goals and finished in 4:08:07. Try to not let that ruin the rest of this post.
Well I made it safely to Inverness and I’m now lying here in my room waiting for tomorrow to come to see if I’m even anywhere close to being able to run a marathon, let alone finish one under a certain time target.
So far this evening I’ve eaten 24 Jaffa cakes, a duck wrap and some Cheestrings Spaghetti. Yes, they sell that shit here too.
I set out at 6:30am this morning after a night of shitty sleep and got the tube to St Pancras.
From there I caught the train to London Luton and flew smoothly up to Inverness.
I waited around at Inverness Airport for an hour as I was too tired to make the journey into the City Centre.
Then I went to the expo and bought the same gels that I used in the 50k. I’m gonna have to be very careful with how I consume these as I don’t fancy stopping for a toilet break in Loch Ness. If I become hopeless again I’ll start eating my hands instead of the gels.
It took me ages to find the expo site. My sense of direction seems to be getting worse by the day. By the time I arrived I just wanted to be in bed. I could barely walk in a straight line. I’ve been up at 5am most mornings to write and I struggle to go to bed before 1am so I am in danger of burning out.
I went for something to eat after I collected my race pack and realised I’d forgotten to bring a running shirt. Fortunately there’s a Sportsdirect right in the centre of Inverness and I bought myself a nice black Karrimor top.
Race plan for tomorrow is to try to get to 20 miles in 3 hours 10 minutes to leave an easy 70 minute 10k for a sub 4:20 marathon. If I can come away having achieved that then I’ll be fucking delighted.
