I’m Inspired By The Eddie Izzard Marathon Man Documentary Series.
Hello kind sir/madam. My my, that beard looks good on you.
I was gonna get the train to Bishops Stortford today to run back into London but decided against it as there’s a bus substitution service on after Cheshunt and I hate buses.
My new casual long run technique of stopping and pissing around.
I’m inspired so much by the Eddie Izzard running documentary series. In case you haven’t seen it, here’s all 3 parts of it from Youtube.
I love how Eddie pisses about so much on the run. For me there’s no fun at all in running constantly for 20 miles. I hate having to carry supplies. It’s shit being a slave to a watch. I’d much prefer to break my run into smaller manageable chunks.
So with this in mind I set out at 6am and headed due West with the idea of stopping every 5 to 8 miles for a rest and something to eat.
It didn’t work out quite as well as I hoped thanks to piss poor planning. My first run went on for 11 miles and I eventually had to stop at a service station near Mill Hill for some Powerade and a rest.
I then took a wrong turn up to Edgwarebury Park and had to turn back up to Mill Hill East where I stopped and went into the Waitrose for some Bundaberg Root Beer. Then I got the tube home and managed to alienate my fellow commuters with my sweaty minge.
I ran 29k altogether, but I think if I hadn’t taken that wrong turn at Edgwarebury Park I could have went way further as my legs were really strong.
I’m looking forward to the Spring months. I want to get a train out to Henley on Thames and try to get as close as possible to London whilst stopping every so often at the river side cafes.
I’ve been enjoying this so much more ever since I stopped the boozing. Running feels easier and easier every week and I’m genuinely excited about what lays ahead.
