I Ran From Leeds to Liverpool And I Almost Gave Up..
I ran the Leeds to Liverpool Canal last week and I almost gave up but I didn’t.
It took 5 days to run 127 miles and it was plain sailing up until the 3rd day.
On that 3rd day I ended up staying at this golf resort outside Chorley and I was chaffed badly from running. My nipples and back were on fire from my backpack bouncing up on down. My room was overlooking the putting green and I forgot to close my blinds. Stripped down to my man boobs I was caught by 2 gentlemen surveying the damage to my back in a mirror. Worse still – I was fondling one of my chafe scabs to see just how much it burned as I have mental problems.
I struggled to sleep from the shame and awoke in a bad mood. I made the decision to just go back to Northern Ireland at that point and run the rest of the canal at some other point.
Being a lazy bastard, I couldn’t be bothered calling the taxi to get back to Liverpool so I decided to jog to the centre of Chorley. I got there and continued onto Wigan where I almost died from dehydration until I spotted this little cafe beside a garage. I ordered 3 bottles of Coke and a can of Vimto for Lunch and gave myself the challenge of making it Burscough which was about 12 miles away.
I got to Burscough and finished the canal strongly the next day. It was much easier than I expected as the temperature had dropped by about 5 Celcius. Running in 25-26C heat when your my size is quite difficult.
It was a cool trip. I also ran the Lancaster Canal which was 57 miles in length. I got the Liverpool ferry there and back.
I’ve nothing more to add on this. I will tell you all about my trip across The Netherlands soon. It took 18 days to run 310 miles and I angered many dogs and Dutch people along the way with my lack of diplomacy and tact.
