I May Well Have Pushed Myself A Little Too Far Last Week
I guess I tried to do too much too soon last week. 57 miles in a week is excessive considering I’d completed 34 miles for the previous week.
Ever since my long run on Sunday I’ve had a pain in my knee that only registers when I stand up. It’s a sharp pain that seems to be diminishing over time thankfully.
To make sure that I’m fit for the half marathons, I’ve taken the last 2 days off running and have taken up walking instead.
I’m pretty sure that I could go out now and run a 10km but I worry that I’ll develop runners knee again. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
I feel pretty fucking frustrated with myself in all honesty. I should have known that trying to get faster whilst running a high weekly mileage is a recipe for disaster.
Sometimes you only learn by fucking up though. You can read all you want about rest days and training volume but they mean nothing if you don’t listen to what your body is trying to tell you.
I’ve just got to keep optimistic and realise that I haven’t blown my chances and that by leaving my next run to tomorrow P.M I’ll be giving myself enough time to recover.
To try to cheer myself up I have purchased a smartphone that I’ll use to take some proper photographs for my blog. It will no doubt come in handy for the weekend coming up in Glasgow.
