How To Cope When You Are Having A Bad Week Running
There are weeks where you’ll eat like shit, do next to no exercise and feel extremely bloated on all of your runs. The only way to get through such weeks is to get out there and do something. It doesn’t matter if it’s only a mile or two, every little counts.
Exercise isn’t a necessity either. You can improve your situation by eating better and/or counting your calories. It might feel like you’re taking one step forward and two back sometimes, but it’s important that you fight back and try to sustain your progress in whatever way you can.
The absolute worst thing you can do is to just slip into despair and stop exercising. Running gets harder to do the longer you leave it. Always stage your fight back as quickly as possibile after lapsing!
This week I’ve accepted that I’m not going to hit another 50 mile total and am instead focusing on hitting 30 and then bouncing straight back into a 50 miler the week after.
Today I ran with a bit of a hangover at noon and it wasn’t as difficult as I’d anticipated. I ran 6.3 miles in about 65 minutes and felt that I could’ve continued on for another half mile at least. This week I’ve ran 2 times in 5 days. I plan to do 2 runs tomorrow to bring that total up to 4 runs in 6 which is a lot more respectable.
Many thanks go out to Kieron and Lianne at Big Fat Marathon for donating to Cancer Research UK in honour of my three half marathon challenge!
