Hilly Half Marathon Training Run In 2 Hours 14 Minutes.
It’s the last day of September and knowing that this was gonna be my worst month for running distance wise since December 2011, I felt little pressure before my long run today.
I managed a hilly half marathon in just under 2:14, which wasn’t a bad time at all for a slow training run.
I enjoyed the run from start to finish. The first 6 miles were spent running into the wind and for the last 6 I had it blowing on my back and it helped a lot. The only minor annoyance were the insects. Fuckers wouldn’t stop flying at me towards the end when the sun came out. They must have smelled the Lucozade Orange off me again.
Every time one of them flew near me I upped my pace, not giving a shit about burning out. I kept flapping at the fuckers too. I did this in front of several cars and they must have thought I was ready to break out into some bizarre post-apocalyptic rain dance.
Anyway you know how I was saying that I wasn’t gonna waste any more money on races? Well, I’ve been bad. I’ve entered another half marathon. It’s the Great Birmingham Run in 3 weeks time. In January I set myself the goal of reaching the target of 10 half marathons by the end of the year and this will be numero…ten.
I’m confident that I’ll be ready for it having ran 5 half marathons now in the last 6 weeks. If I can keep my long runs up above 10 miles and my weekly mileage around 30 then I won’t have a problem.
It’s great to have something to focus on again. Hopefully I can record a time this time around! They use the exact same Ipeco chips as the Great North Run so I will be making doubly sure that I have it attached properly to my shoe.
I might go on Ebay and buy 1,000 safety pins for good measure too.
I’ll be punting my way around Birmingham looking like this fellow.
