First Half Marathon Ran In Training Since April. 13.15 Miles In 2:15.
I finished the week strong today with a 13.15 mile run around noon in 2 hours 15 minutes. I kept it at an easy pace and only really pushed towards the end as I was aiming for a sub 2:15 half marathon.
It hurt more than I thought it would and it makes me nervous that I won’t be able to achieve my sub 2:10 time in Glasgow next week.
I guess I can take comfort in the fact that my route was hilly and the it was reasonable warm outdoors! Forgetting my time, I’m just glad that I proved that I can still cover the half marathon distance without crumbling at the end.
Mid way through the run I had the misfortune of being stung by a wasp. I was probably at fault for wearing my black and yellow Guns N Roses top and for smelling of sweat and orange drink.
The fucking thing probably thought I was Mother Wasp and that it was feeding time at the nest.
Fortunately it did not land in my mouth. I dunno how the fuck I’d cope if a bee or a wasp got inside my face. The only options would be to either bite down on it or to swallow it and hope that my stomach acids melt its face off.
Anyway, moving on from unwanted mental images..
This week has been excellent all-round. I’ve ran 3 sub 10-minute average runs, each of them over the 10K distance. I ran every day this week too, totally 57.5 miles altogether which is my 3rd best week ever. Not only that, I’m 21 miles short of a 200 mile month.
My goal for next week is to get another 10 mile long run in on either Thursday or Friday and to have another 50 mile week. Since I start my new job next week I won’t have as much time to go running so I want to make sure that I’m fit enough to keep wanting to go on morning jogs.
