Finally – Dublin Marathon 2015 – My 10th Marathon
Hey you evil bunch of bastards. It’s me again. I’m back from the dark recesses of self pity and hate but for how long will be determined by when your mother starts sending me abusive emails again.
I ran my 10th marathon at the end of October and I FUCKING LIKED IT.
I started out with the aim of running a sub 4:40 marathon which is something I failed to do in my last race in Vegas last year, mainly because I spent that entire week spazzed off my face on those stupid Fat Tuesday cocktails.
I started out at a comfortable pace and just decided to take it easy and to enjoy the rest of the day. Nothing really happened during the race…
Apart from getting hit in the head by the 4:50 pacing balloon.
I took that as a personal attack and sprinted right past them and kept glancing over my shoulder to make sure they were far enough away in the distance before slowing back down to my comfortable pace.
I got to the halfway point in 2:19 feeling stronger than I ever have before in a marathon.
I only really hit the wall once at 40k and by that point I knew I was gonna finish so I just knuckled down and kept positive. It also helped that I overtook the 4:40 pacer and I didn’t get slapped in the head by the pacing balloon this time.
I finished in 4:34 which meant that I ran the second half of the marathon quicker than the first.
Going forward into 2016 I want to run more marathons. I don’t care so much about the times as much as I do in taking part. I also want to run lots of 50ks too.
October was a pretty dreadful month for me in terms of my mental health and I’m slowly getting back to where I need to be.
