Entered Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon Contest For January. Then I Ran 10.3 Miles Today.
I went out with the guys from Uni for their Christmas duck, had duck, too much wine and proceeded to dance like a twat for three hours.
This left me violently ill on Saturday morning and unable to run.
I also re-contracted the cold again after having to walk 3 fucking miles down to the restaurant from work in the pissing rain. All of the taxis were booked out as it was one of the biggest nights for office parties of the season.
Read HelsBels blog about why she isn’t going to do Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon. It’s essentially an event where you pledge to give up alcohol for January and fundraise for it throughout December.
Even though HelsBels makes an excellent personal case for not entering the event I’ve decided to join today as a) I tried to raise money in September for my 3 half marathons for Cancer Research UK and didn’t raise as much as hoped and b) it will be nice to have a break from booze in January to lose more weight.
In the past I’ve felt slightly embarrassed about fundraising for Cancer Research UK. I completely support their cause and everything, it’s just I’m a little self conscious about trying to promote the charity whilst eating nothing but Pot Noodles, Lindor Truffles and fucking Cheestrings.
I’m hardly the poster boy for an anti cancer charity, am I?
But given my genetics and my diet I think it’s in my best interests that Cancer Research UK find a way to beat Cancer.
Which is why I’m proud to be supporting them again.
Sunday – 10 Mile Long Run
Didn’t wake up until midday which pushed back my long run to almost 3 o’clock. I was nervous before going out as I’d only run once this week. If I fucked it up, then the whole week would have been a disaster.
Fortunately I managed 10.3 miles in 102 minutes. That makes for a total of 18.3 miles for the week which is one of my worst weeks ever! Still, it could have been worse!
I’m off work from Friday so that’ll give me some free time to fit in a good few runs over the festive period.
I’m still on target for 100 miles for December. I think I could easily equal last month’s mileage if I run at least 6 times at Christmas.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to a rest over the period too so I won’t be pushing myself too hard!
