Dublin Marathon Training Ended Officially Today With A Rest Day
Woke up this morning still tired from yesterday’s 16.24 miler.
I didn’t want to run today and that was before I managed to drop an empty bottle of Weston’s Wyld Wood cider onto my foot going down into the kitchen.
Fortunately I didn’t do any real damage to the toe (although the nail came half way off and bled a bit).
Anyway, I really fucking enjoyed having a rest day for once. Running 2 long runs in a weekend really takes it out of you and sometimes you’ve just gotta accept that you’re ready for a marathon.
So no more official long runs for this race!
I’m happy with how training has went. Altogether I’ve managed 25 runs over half marathon distance in the last 3 months of training.
I think that’s an all time record for me. Most of the run are well over 13 miles too which is great.
Going for a personal best in Dublin
I’m gonna head out at a 9:50 min/mile pace and hold it for as long as I can. I’ve been running faster and harder on hills recently to try to build up my stamina so it should be easy enough to do this.
My time target for Dublin at sub 4:30, I know that I tend to fade towards the end of marathons which is why I’m heading out at 9:50 min/mile to give myself a little bit of a buffer.
I’ll see how I feel on the day. If I’ve a shit ton of energy at 20 miles then I’ll begin to push even more. I hope this is the case.
I want to wash the awful rape like memory of the Titanic Quarter 50k from my mind. This time 6 weeks ago I was still out running on the outskirts of Belfast thinking that the run would never end.
In some ways I think part of me is still out there (and I’m not referring to my dung).
The real test will be the Vegas Marathon.
I’m in Las Vegas for 10 nights altogether starting November 13th. The race happens on the 5th night so I’m gonna work through a tapering system that will hopefully see me through my holiday without dying.
It will go like this.
Day 1 – Eat at buffets, gamble, drink
Day 2 – Go to Grand Canyon, try not to fall into Canyon or shit myself on the bus.
Day 3 – Eat at buffets, gamble, drink
Day 4 – Eat at buffets, gamble, drink less
Day 5 – Run for 26.2 miles, gamble, drink
Day 6-10 – Eat at buffets, gamble, drink.
I think you get the idea.
I’ll be sharing everything as it happens in Dublin and Vegas over on the Facebook page. If you aren’t a member, feel free to pop on over and say hello.
Anyway I’m going to bed now. Crazy how tired I am considering I didn’t run!
