Double Running Session Today. Closing In On 200 Miles For The Month With One Day Left.
After the injury scare at the start of the week I can finally say with confidence that I’ll be able to complete the 3 upcoming half marathons without worrying about my knees capsizing.
I went out today with the y-fumble arm wallet I ordered and it was exactly what I wanted. I’m not someone who stops to piss around with mp3 players or phones whilst I’m running, rather I wanted something that could keep my possessions in place in case I needed them in emergency.
The y-fumble was perfect for that.
The only real downside with the y-Fumble is that after the first 6.4 miler I thought I’d fucking lost the thing as I hadn’t felt it on my arm since the start of my jog.
After the Great Scottish Run 2011 pissgate affair, I’ve accepted that I can’t be arsed with belts, backpacks or any other wacky shit when racing. So much of it can go wrong and it can really ruin your race if you let it. It’s much better to go for a simple approach and wear only what you need.
Anyhow, after the 6.4 mile run I knew that I had to run again to try to make up my weekly goal of 40 miles.
The second run (as always) was a little harder and I struggled in the middle because of the heat but kept going and finished on 5.1 miles. This leaves me with a 7.4 miler tomorrow (and the Great Scottish Run on Sunday!) to take me up to a 40 miler for the week. Plus jogging tomorrow will allow me to take Saturday off to enjoy myself in Glasgow before the race.
Overall, August 2012 has been an excellent month for running. I’ve never ran as far in a single month before.
199.45 miles over 29 runs is sheer lunacy when I look back at it. I’ve stopped sensing the miles passing as I run at a very easy tempo and try to enjoy it. If I were to try to run that distance over a month whilst aiming for speed I’d find it impossible.
Tomorrow I’ve to run at least o.55 miles to hit the 200 mile mark and to be honest it’s something that I thought I’d never achieve. But I will do it!
