Where To Buy Camelbak Hydration Packs Online
I recommend the Camelbak Octane XCT as it's an excellent hydration pack for runners.
I bought one in September 2011 and have been using it ever since.
I Run Half Marathons With My Camelbak Octane XCT
Camelbaks are an essential aid to me in long distance events, particularly when I'm away from home.
I will travel with my Camelbak inside my main rucksack and on race day put my key items like my phone and credit cards in the top back pockets. Supplies such as energy gels, sports bars and glucose tablets will go in both of the back pockets.
The rear pockets are a godsend as they allow for easy access to my supplies when running. I don't have to stop to get out a packet of Lucozade Glucose Tablets.
How Often Should I Clean Out My Camelbak Octane XCT?
I make the habit of cleaning mine out after every race, that way there's little chance of any remaining fluid in the reservoir or food in the pockets from going off and causing an unholy stench.
I was foolish enough to leave my Camelbak unchecked after the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2011. I found mouldy Lucozade Energy tablets in the pockets. Disgusting.
How Long Does Water Stay Good For In The Camelbak Octane XCT?
I've left water in there for days and weeks at a time and there hasn't been a problem.
I wouldn't try the same thing with isotonic sports drink though. That stuff tends to expire very quickly.
Can I Put Other Liquids In The Camelbak Octane XCT? Like Alcohol?
Yes you can, but if you're gonna insist on putting booze in there, you'll be fucked and more so if you're running a marathon.
It will all seem like fun and games until you reach mile 20 and can no longer walk, let alone run.
And no, even I'm not stupid enough to try that. I wait until after a half marathon before getting tanked. Dehydration can be an absolute killer.
What Kind Of Camelbak Should I Get For Running?
I recommend the Camelbak Octane XCT. It can store up to 3 litres of fluid and has enough pocket space for even the hungriest of runners.
I couldn't conceive running a marathon without one now.
