Attempting 29 Half Marathons In 29 Days As Preparation For The Green Man Ultra
I’m back to being self employed. I only stopped being self employed as I put more of my heart into drinking than running my business. In order to find my authentic self I need be independent. I have so many aspects of myself that I need to work on that it seems impossible at times, but as long as I’m sober I’m confident I’ll achieve what I need to achieve.
It’s scary and I haven’t a fucking idea what I’m doing really. Not a cocking clue.
On Saturday I entered The Green Man.
It’s a 45 mile run around Bristol where you’re tailed and harassed by Beth Gibbons from Portishead who berates you for your binge drinking and your poor dietary habits. If she catches you then she’ll make you perform an impromptu version of ‘Glory Box’ whilst bollock naked at the race campfire. You are then deemed to be The Green Man for that year and get free entry to The Pale Man ultra which is a 56 mile run around Oxford where you’re tailed by Thom Yorke from Radiohead.
In preparation for it I’m planning on running 29 consecutive half marathons in February for Mind.
I got the idea when out running yesterday morning. I made it to the Olympic Stadium and thought “fucking hell it’s nice here, I wonder if I could just from Tottenham to here every day?”. I made it too.
And then I ran another half today. I wanted to make sure I could do 2 half marathons in a row and be in a good state before announcing this publicly.
Recently I’ve sorted out my diet and I no longer feel like a slave to food impulses. Over the past 2 weeks I’ve been making progress every single day with both my running and my weight. I’m now down to 207 pounds from 220 at Christmas. It’s important that this progress is maintained.
I start every day now by saying that I won’t drink today and that I will aim to leave my body stronger than it was yesterday.
I’m feeling well rested and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s run.
