Another 11.2 Mile Long Run In The Rain And A 50+ Mile Week.
I’m beginning to get the hang of this long run jazz! The only problem is that my long runs are never slower than my shorter runs. They are often quicker. I still have great difficulty in forcing myself to run slower than a 11 minute mile. I feel like I’m cheating if I go at that rate (unless it’s a marathon).
Anyway that’s my 2nd 10+ miler in the space of 6 days. I set out to run 8.5 miles to bring me up to 50 for the week but knew that my legs were strong enough to go further.
And just as I made the decision to continue it started fucking raining!
The rain was a welcome distraction from the heat and the wind. It was drizzle more than anything and at least gave me an excuse to be as wet as I was (from sweating like a bastard!).
The best thing about today’s run is that my last 2 full miles were below a 10 minute mile. My pacing was spot-on for most of the run. Started slow and picked up the pace, mile on mile.
This week has been a success. I’ve ran 52.5 miles in total and 5 of those runs have been over the 10k distance.
I’m confident that I could run a half marathon this time next week if I wanted to, but I’d be running to finish rather than achieve a semi reasonable time.
If I keep putting in these 40-50 mile weeks capped off with 10+ mile long runs then I might well be ready for a late Autumn marathon..
