Another 10K Run In The Soaring Northern Irish Heat! Hoping Now To Do Three Half Marathons In September.
Another lovely summer’s day here in Northern Ireland and another 10k run from me in the sweltering heat.
Thankfully the pain in my leg from last night disappeared by morning and I felt fairly strong throughout the run. The only problem was that my Forerunner’s GPS was off again. For the past 2 days it’s reported that I’ve ran further than I actually have after my runs. Today it was reporting less. It wasn’t a big deal, but it’s still very off putting.
It’s a pain having to correct my distance on the Garmin Connect website too. I always err on the side of caution and assume I’ve ran less than I actually have.
Anyhow, from now on I’ll be taking an isotonic sports drink out with me whilst running. The amount of water I lose while running is incredible (and that’s not including my mid-run piss in the hedgerows!).
Midway through the jog, I noticed what I thought was the smell of popcorn. This continued on for the entire run. It took me close to an hour to realise that the smell wasn’t ‘popcorn’ but my own skin burning from the Sun…
Running at the minute is a good release more than anything. It’s great to get outside and sweat out all of the negativity and absorb some sunshine. I tend to get caught up too much in my own mind at times and it can happen in runs too (still). During the 10k I was lamenting my lack of pace.
I got caught in two minds on whether I should go for distance or speed and decided to not make myself miserable and to just keep fucking going.
I ended up sprinting the last 200m which is something at least.
The plan at the minute is simple, just keep running. I’ve covered 138 miles this month. In July 2011 I’d covered 90 miles for the entire period and I was training for a marathon then. I just need to keep going.
Really looking forward to the Great Scottish Run and the Great North Run in September. Thinking of signing up for the Waterside Half Marathon too in the same month to make it 3 half marathons in 3 weeks.
Online registration isn’t open until tomorrow so I’ll have to make a decision then.
