Aiming For 5000Km In 2018
Only 2 nights left in Split. I’ve missed London but I’ve also loved this little working break over the last 2 months. Who knows where I’ll wind up next time. From Monday I’m gonna be staying at Heathrow Airport. Not too far from the Grand Union Canal so I want to be making it my home over the next 2 months or so. By home I don’t mean living in the fucking canal. I want to run along it in the same way I did with the River Lea when I lived in Tottenham.
Been inspired by this film about the Barkley Marathons and it shows how brutal the course actually is. The film doesn’t really do the course justice but this footage makes my old sack shrivel inside of me. The runner in the film is a proper man. A Jesusesque character rescuing novices on the course. Christ and Lassie rolled into one role model with an epic haircut.
I’ve entered the Sunset to Sunrise Ultra Challenge in Telford next month. It’s one of those out and back lap challenges where you have to run until your legs fall off. I’ve always wanted to do a Last Man Standing style event and this will be a good introduction into that crazy old world. I am good at running repetitively on repetitive surfaces because I’m a boring bastard. This race takes place on a deserted railway line in the dark so if I can keep my headlamp in juice it will be all good.
I am going to make 2018 my best year for running so far after it seeming like it was gonna be one of my worst. My aim is to run at least 100km every week for the last 10 of the year. If I do that I will have a fucking awesome springboard into 2019. The goal is 5,000km. I managed that in 2016 and almost in 2017 too with much better starts to the year than this year.
