A Slow Easy 10K Run In Warm Weather Whilst Nursing A Jogging Niggle…
I woke up today in an incredibly foul mood.
When you’re in a rut you seem to naturally gravitate to the things that will keep you in that rut. For me it’s the Guardian website and Pot Noodles.
I hit both hard by 11am.
Eurozone crisis, sodium crisis.
I made the decision to run at just after 12 noon dreading the thought of it. It was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
The niggle in my knee is still there. The complaint disappears altogether when I’m running on flat ground, but if I have to elevate my legs whatsoever it becomes quite uncomfortable.
I’ve found that consciously running heavier on my left side eases it too. I seem to land heavier on my right side and I think that’s been the main cause of the complaint.
That and going from running 0 miles one week to 50 the next week.
Someone recommended stretching it but I refuse to do it as it reminds me of school and the only time I’ve tried stretching outside of college I tore a hole in my trousers and nearly collapsed whilst trying to hold my thigh, back behind my arse.
I’m the sort of hapless idiot that is liable to stretch for the first time on the starting line of a half marathon and rupture my crack, back and sack all at once.
I have to be the least agile person on the planet.
If I were to try aerobics I’m pretty sure random parts of my body would snap off like tired, dead wood.
But yeah, I actually did enjoy that 10k. I’m still not exactly where I want to be fitness wise but I’m not gonna get there by sitting around on my ass and feeling sorry for myself.
