A 9.1 Mile Run Today And My Third Run Of The Week.
An excellent run today! The sun hit the east coast of Ireland for the first time in what seemed like 15 fucking years and it was a beautiful day out.
I did 9.16 miles in 88 minutes and I didn’t feel properly out of breath until my sprint finish that started 1/4 mile from home.
I’ve been trying to throw in hills, distance and ‘speedwork’ into every run recently and it’s paying off. My pace is slowly increasing along with my distance which is very encouraging.
When I started running I felt I had to concentrate on either distance or pace. At the minute I’m delighted that I’m running both slightly faster and slightly further.
I may have failed to meet my weight target for February but I’ve succeeded in getting to grips with the 8-10 mile distance in my short runs. This is critical as I’m training for a fucking Marathon not a weight loss contest.
The best thing is, I don’t fear the marathon distance anymore. It may be only 9 weeks until Paris, but I’ve already got a 15 mile run behind me.
Tomorrow I’ll try to hit 14 miles just to keep the momentum going.
In my last two marathon training schedules I left the really long runs until 2 or 3 weeks before the event. Now my aim is to do 15/16 mile runs earlier on in my marathon schedule so that there is no rushing.
With this in mind I’m hoping that the long run will go smoothly tomorrow.
And it will!
