A 7.1 Mile Run On A Dark Dark Winter Morning.
Fuck it I’m feeling uninspired tonight everyone.
At times like this devouring huge amounts of cheese seems like a great idea. But it never is. Boredom and restlessness are often indicative of an incoming cheese feast but tonight I’ll be resisting the temptation. From Saturday onwards I’ll be attending the local gym to counter these feelings. I’m tired of coming home and having little to do! Some cross training will definitely do me the world of good.
I went on a run at 5:30am this morning and it was fucking annoying in parts. Mainly because I run on a stretch that doesn’t have any street lights so I was unable to see where I was going or what I was running into. It was terrifying so I slowed down to a 13 minute mile for a while.
The darkness seemed unending so whenever a car blazed past I took advantage of the headlights and sprinted as fast as I could whilst there was some visibility. Unfortunately the cars were rare and I had to slow right back down to avoid catastrophe.
The most embarrassing part was when I accidentally ran down the slope from the Marine Highway almost onto the beach itself. I had to do a U-turn back up onto the pavement and do another 360 degree turn. No one was around to see my blunder, but my pride was hurt.
These dark evenings and mornings sadden me. It will only get worse too until we hit the Solstice and then the Spring will gradually creep back in. But until then I plan to finish off October strong and to keep on working on my fitness gradually.
I keep thinking back to my early spring jaunt to Fuengirola for inspiration where I watched the sun disappear into the fragrance of the orange trees from my balcony.
I need to recapture that sensation again. Of being away in the sun for a while and feeling free. All of that lies ahead again, but first we must brave the winter.
I am also dreading the cold months. I’m going to have to force myself out most days. Do you have a headlamp you can wear? I carry a flashlight and shine it in drivers’ faces for fun.
