7 Mile Run Today At A Slightly Faster Pace Of 10:16 Min / Mille – 41 Miles For The Week So Far
An excellent run today around a new route.
Started off on a mile long climb which was pretty tough. I struggled for breath at times and thought about turning every other minute but I managed to keep positive about it as I knew that once I got past the 1st mile the rest of the run was flat or downhill.
And I turned out to be right. I got my breath fully back by about 1.3 miles and just kept it steady from there. I felt so good that I was doing 10 second sprints across roads and such.
I really enjoyed randomly switching my pace. I hate the idea of doing regimented speed work. I’d rather keep it spontaneous and base it on how I’m feeling at the time. It’s too easy to run hard for 0.25 mile and then for the rest of the run you’ve nothing left to give. It can break you.
Anyway, I’ve done 41 miles this week and I’m enjoying training for the half marathons in September.
It’s great knowing that I don’t have a marathon to run in the immediate future. I hate the dread I feel before I set out on a marathon long run of say 18 miles. Too much pressure and I just get fucking bored by the end of it.
