2 Marathon Distance+ Days In A Row
After 6 hours of running on Thursday I was suffering badly from sunburn so I decided to take it easily as I moved out of Portreath.
I didn’t do any planning and ended up running South East towards Truro instead of North East towards Newquay. I don’t want to start taking the most direct route as that will become a joyless March to the end. At the same time I don’t want to run in circles chasing my arse.
I got lost and went off road for a while down a bridleway outside St Day. It started raining pretty heavily and by the time I reached St Agnes I was miserably wet. I couldn’t find a pub with WiFi so I went to a greasy spoon and ordered a pasty. I like the idea of pasties on paper. I just hate the surprise potatoes and veg inside them.
I continued on towards Newquay and stopped 6 miles short of it for some Pepsi in a bar. When I walked in the door I was met with laughter and one of the boyos shouted “Look it’s ET!’. Fuck it. I’m not gonna stop wearing this hat for some arsehole. I’ve grown attached to it and it has kept me safe from traffic so far.
I wasn’t expecting much from today but I ran 46km in total. That takes me to 101km over the past 2 days.
On the approach to Newquay I tripped over what looked like a broken piece of a car bumper and landed on my knee. Thankfully I escaped injury and I jumped straight back up and started shouting at oncoming traffic.
Relaxing in my hotel tonight in Newquay and trying to minimise the discomfort from the sun burn and the fall. Hoping to cross Cornwall by the end of the week at the very latest.
I’ve had two strong days where I made big mistakes yet still survived them. If I can keep healthy and keep moving forward then I can complete this. I need to be more careful on my feet. It’s difficult to maintain concentration when you are running for 5+ hours. You need some time to zone out but that comes at the price of tripping over all sorts of shit.
